The focus at Birka Scandinavian Jewelry is to produce elegant designs at affordable prices. Our main lines are based on traditional chain pattern work as well as innovative forms based on the principles of modern Scandinavian design. All our jewelry is handmade by us in our work shop in New Jersey. We use Sterling Silver and each ring is cut by hand. All our chains can be made in any length.
We combine backgrounds in Art History and Archaeology with one to the past and the other towards the future. Our traditional design lines are based on chain patterns found throughout Medieval Europe. We do not limit ourselves, however, to copies or adaptations of old designs. We are also interested in the forms of modern expression typified by contemporary Scandinavian deign and are constantly introducing new ideas rarely seen anywhere else. Simplicity of line, grace between form and space, and the production of carefully developed designs are our primary missions. The result is invariably a piece where applied design brings out the natural beauty of the metal and gemstone within a graceful whole.
